Nooaitch Culture Camp Oct. 23, 2026

October 26, 2026

On October 23, 2026, a provincial pro-d day, up to 40 teachers, EAs, and ISAs attended the Nooaitch Culture Camp. Staff were honoured to gather with Knowledge Keepers from the Nooaitch Band for a day of on-the-land learning and storytelling. Woven through the day was a reminder that this learning is part of every educator’s responsibility:

  • Truth and reconciliation: Calls to Action 62 and 63 link education to understanding residential school history, integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods, and building mutual respect. This learning helps us bring that work into our schools.
  • Indigenous rights: The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) affirms the right to education free from discrimination and connected to Indigenous languages and cultures.
  • Professional responsibility: Standard 9 for BC certified teachers calls on educators to respect First Nations, Inuit, and Métis histories and cultures, deepen their understanding of these ways of knowing and being, and contribute to truth, reconciliation, and healing. For all staff, the day was a chance to strengthen how we support students.

Staff left with a deeper connection to the community and meaningful learning to carry into their work with students.
